SANS 10142-1 compliance
Electrical Certificates of Compliance
A full electrical inspection and legally required Certificate of Compliance, issued by a registered contractor — for property sales, insurance, and solar SSEG registration.

When you need a CoC
Selling a property
South African law requires a valid Certificate of Compliance before transfer of any residential or commercial property.
SSEG solar registration
Grid-tied solar systems need an electrical CoC as part of the City of Cape Town's SSEG approval process.
Insurance requirements
Many insurers require a current CoC to validate fire and electrical damage claims — don't find out after the fact.
General compliance
Renovations, additions, or simply wanting peace of mind that your installation meets current SANS 10142-1 standards.

What the inspection covers
We inspect the distribution board, earthing and bonding, circuit protection, socket outlets, lighting, and any solar or backup power wiring against the SANS 10142-1 standard. You get a written list of any defects, a quote to fix them if needed, and the certificate once the installation passes.
Questions we hear most
What is an Electrical Certificate of Compliance?
A CoC is a legal document confirming your property's electrical installation meets the SANS 10142-1 wiring code. It's issued by a registered electrical contractor after a full inspection, and is a legal requirement when selling property in South Africa.
How long does a CoC inspection take?
A standard residential inspection typically takes one to two hours depending on the size of the property and the age of the installation. We'll give you an accurate estimate when we book the visit.
What happens if my installation fails inspection?
We list every defect found, quote to fix them, and issue the certificate once the installation is brought up to standard. There's no obligation to use us for the repair work, though most clients do since we already know the installation.
Do I need a new CoC for solar installation?
Yes. Grid-tied solar (SSEG) registration with the City of Cape Town requires a current electrical Certificate of Compliance covering the new installation work.
How long is a Certificate of Compliance valid?
A CoC has no fixed legal expiry, but it only covers the installation as it existed at inspection. Any electrical changes after that — new circuits, DB changes, additions — require a fresh certificate.
